Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 8 1/2 Briggs & Stratton not starting, briggs stratton, riding mowers

Question
Hello, I bought a slighty used little "Yard Bug" riding mowers for my stepson to "help" me mow with.
When I bought it, it was not cranking- due to one of the saftey switches, the one on the seat.
I bypassed it, and it ran fine. While he was mowing a few weeks later, it died, we thought he had run it out of gas. Wll, I didn't think much of it then, as it was hot that day, so I rolled it into our garage.
When I found time to work on it, I put gas in it,,, it wouldn't start,I checked the ONLY fuse, and it was blown, from switch to selonoid, I replaced it, and it blew again,,, and again.
I "by-passed" the switch, to starter, and it cranked. Thinking it was yet another Saftey switch, we proceeded to do away with them ALL.
After, we did that, the fuse still blew, and my stepson said he same "smoke" rising out of the top of flywheel.
I didn't see it, BUT I wonder IF I "burnt up the ignition altogether?

Answer
 Hello Brian:

From your Description I Suggest you Remove the Blower Housing(metal Engine Cover and Look For a Burnt Wire. Most likely the Fuse was Blowing Because the Wire Shielding Melted and was Grounded. Replace the Wire. If you Didnt Leave the Current on too Long the Unit May Still be Good. Send me the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these NumbersI can View a Breakdown of the Engine and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
