Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Riding mower trans?, oil mixture, milk chocolate

Question
Hi.  I m an idiot. I put a gas/oil mixture in my riding mower by accident. I was told it wouldn t hurt anything, but to dilute it as much as possible with gas. It did smoke some, but ran fine.  Upon restart, it would not engage in any gear.  Engine is running okay (alittle smoke) , but it won t go in gear.  Is this due to the gas goof up?  It s a troybilt less than a year old.  Help.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi hp,

You were told correctly.  The oil won't hurt anything, just produce smoke.  After a few tanksfull, you might check the spark plug for fouling and replace it if needed.  It should be milk chocolate brown and not black.

The transmission issue is not related to the oil/gas mix.  I would check the clutch and try adjusting it.

Let me know how you make out.
