Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): muffler, john deere lt155, kohler engine

Question
I have a John Deere LT155 mower.  I am replacing the bad Kohler engine that came with it with a B&S 18hp Vanguard motor that I have.  I have seen where this engine is listed as a replacement for this mower.  What muffler do I need to purchase for this engine to fit on an LT155?  Model # of engine is 350777 type 1034-A1.  Would like for it to fit similar to the one that came off the mower if possible.

Answer
The part number you need is difficult to identify since most mufflers are built by Briggs to the requirements of the mower manufacture.

Do you have access to a MIG welder or know a friend with one?  My recommendation is to fabricate the orginal muffler to fit the Briggs engine.  Mostly this will involve making or modifing headers to run to the orginal muffler.

This link sells a muffler.

This link is Briggs parts page for you engnie.  It shows a couple of mufflers and even better it has the header listed as well.

The manifold is pricy but may save you time and labor money if you have to custom fab the manifold.

Let me know if the links help.
