Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere stx 38 ignition, purple wire, grounding wire

Question
I have a John Deere stx 38. I had a problem with the ignition spinning around and all the wires shorted out. I have replaced the wires, but can not seem to get them hooked onto the proper posts on the ignition. Can you tell me which wires go to which post. There are 5 posts on the ignition. I have 2 yellow, 2 white, 1 black, 1 red and 1 purple wire to hook on. Currently, the mower starts, but does not stop if I turn to off. I can get it to stop if I try to engage the blades. I figure I must have something incorrect in the wiring. Please help.

Answer
Hiya J - I don't have specific info on this, but I know that what your missing is the grounding wire for the ignition (this is how they kill the engines- they ground the primary to the coil so - no voltage for spark)  Try to locate the wire coming from your coil-it should be a small black wire and wind its way to the ignition switch.  Let me know what you find. :)
