Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Replacing Starter Gear, briggs and stratton, briggs and stratton starter

Hello I am having some troubles taking the starter gear off my Briggs and Stratton starter.  Can you tell me how to remove it?  Do I need a special tool?

If you have a round clip holding on the starter gear then the special tool is almost a requirement.

You have to press down on  the outer metal piece which will then allow you to remove the ring.

Make sure you put the starter gear on correctly...one side of the starter gear is beveled.
