Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Timing of Tecumseh engines, tecumseh engines, riding mower

Question
I have a riding mower with a 12.5 tecumseh engine and when you start it, it is turning over like the timing is out.How can I check to see if the timing is ok?

Answer
Rob- I'm afraid my experience with Tecumseh isn't all that great- I know on the older engines, you had to pop the head off, use a ruler, find TDC, then with some thin cellophane in the breaker points back off on the piston a distance specified by engine chart (for instance 0.07"), adjust the stator until the cellophane drops out & your done (that was for a 3yr old 10.5hp).  Tell you what, gimmie your engine model number & I'll hunt it down. :)
