Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S motor what start, engine model type, compression power

hi there again when i lined the cam and the crank lines up the piston is not at top dead center.and yes we removed the vales maybe these will help the person that i got it from had to put fuel into the spark plug hole and some times it would start and sometimes you have to do it more than once be for it would start.  do you have a pic of how the two lines on the cam and the crank should be are can you tell me please this motor is off a snowblower i really thank you for the help -------------------------

i have a b&s 5hp and i put new gaskets in it and rebuild the carb we i try to start it all it does it backfire throw the carb.i lind up the marks on the cam and crank and it stills does it it has alot of spark to it.it is geting fuel to it do you know what it might be
Answer -
Check the flywheel key.  
After you lined up the dots, did you follow the engine through all 4 cycles to make sure it is timed?
Is the blade adapter and blade on tightly?
Also, did you remove the valves or valve tapets?

The piston will not be at TDC when you align the timing marks.

Find an article on the web about 4 cycle engines.  Read about how and when the intake, compression, power and exhasut strokes occurr.

Send me those numbers.
