Question
Subject - Start Problem with BandS motor

Item - Generac 5kw generator with BandS 10hp 19G412 motor. Pull Start motor.

Problem
1.  Motor will not start when cold, with or without choke.
2.  Motor will start first pull with a one half second shot of pressurized Prestone motor start fluid in the carb.
3.  Motor will start first pull up to two hours after shut off after running until warmed up.

Particulars
1.  Generator is abut two years old.
2.  Generator has only about 20 hours of total run time.
3.  New spark plug (.030 gap)
4.  New gas (reqular unledded)
5.  New oil (30wt)
6.  Choke is working OK.
7.  BandS dealer checked and adjusted valves, checked spark.
8.  When it is running with no load, it runs uneven.  It has a slight variation in speed that gos away when it is choked about half way.

What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Hey Ron,
The carb is probably clogged or starting to clog. What you need to do is take some gasoline and soak the carb in it for about 2-3 hours. Then you must take pipe cleaner and run it through ever hole in the carb. Re-soak the carb in gas for about 30 minutes and re-install. If you would like change the fuel filter(if applicable), and soak the fuel lines is gas also and run pipe cleaner through them. Hope this helps. Let me know how it works out.
