Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snapper (/w B&S) Battery Not Charging, briggs and stratton, hp briggs

Question
John,

I have a Snapper 33113S with an 11 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. Engine
info: Model 252707, Type 0208-01, and Code 31112411. For some reason
my battery, which is/was new. Is dead and will not charge. With the engine
running I get about 13.75 volts at the battery and the same at the output of
the regulator. Is this sufficient to charge the battery? If not, then what do you
think is my problem? Also, I used my car to jump my mower. I hope this
doesn't pose any adverse effects.

On a side note, I seem to have semi-faulty spark plug wire. This appears to
be built in to the magneto. Is it possible to replace just the wire?

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Answer
Hello Adam:

>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only are Required). Example:  252707-0208. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select Sectional Index. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View.
>>If you Jumped the Small Engine with an Automobile and the Auto Engine was Running at the Time, then the Auto Charging System Shorted the Small Engine Charging System.
>>****Never Use a Running Engine to Jump a Small Engine.****
>>The Charging Systems Usually are Different and the Larger AMP System will Short the Lower AMP System (Usually the Small Engine System).
>>Most Stators can be Tested Using the Guide at the Following Site Addy; For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs.
>>The Coil Lead is Not Replaceable, Only the End Cap is.
>>If the Coil Lead is Damaged, then a New Coil is Required.
>>From the Readings you Showed me, the Battery should be Charging.
>>Have the Battery Checked for a Bad/Weak Cell. Even New Batteries can have a Bad/Weak Cell.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
