QuestionI've been having major white smoke coming from my mower that shuts it down. This has happened more than the last three times in using it. I read your reply here:
The smoke is from burned engine oil that leaked from the crankcase into the cylinder while the engine was tilted
But I was wondering if anything else might be causing this problem.

I was working on my mower and I had it tilted upright on its front wheels to fix the back ones. After letting it sit for a few minutes, I started it and saw a lot of white smoke coming out. After shutting it down and letting it sit for a half hour, I started it again. The smoke wasn't as thick but was still there. Any ideas?
Answer:
The smoke is from burned engine oil that leaked from the crankcase into the cylinder while the engine was tilted. The engine will smoke until all the oil is burned off. No harm has been done. Check the oil level though and top it off if needed.

If it is still smoking, although a coincidence with the tilting, there must be oil leaking by the rings causing a continuous burning of the oil. I would do a compression test to verify this.
