Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): riding lawnmower clutch/gear/drive wont go!, quality farm and fleet, transmission pulley

Question
When the riding mower is put into gear (any gear) and the clutch is released.... there is NO movement at all.  When in any gear the mower can be rolled in either direction....

whats up with that?!?!!?!?!

(3 or 4 year old Quality Farm and Fleet Garden Tractor)

Answer
If it rolls and nothing happens in any gear, the problem is likely related to the belt drive, input pulley (sheared key) or the pinion gear inside the trans may be the issue.  You need to check a few things first.  Check that when the clutch is released the drive belt is tight.  If so, remove the drive belt from the transmission pulley and turn the pulley by hand.  If you feel little or no resistance see if the pulley is also turning the input shaft for the trans.  If so, and there is little or no resistance, the problem is internal.  Hope this helps.
