Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snow Blower, snow blower, snowblower

Question
I have a John Deere 826D snowblower at my house that was loaned to me from a friend for the winter so i'm a little hesatant to tear it apart.  They claim they never had a problem with it.  Every time I go to use it, it's starts right up on the first pull, and it runs for about 15 seconds and the engine cuts out before I get a chance to cut the choke back and get on the throttle.  Once it shuts off, I have to let it sit at least a half hour before I can start it again.  I think it's flooding it self out, but what would cause that, and is there an easy way to fix it?

Answer
Try setting the mixture screw on the carb (float bowl) to 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated.  If it's cold outside, open or close the mixture screw until the engine runs smoothly and then open it another 1/8 of a turn.  If this doesn't correct this, the carb may need to be cleaned thoroughly.  If fuel was left in it over the summer, the carb will definitely need to be cleaned and you might want to turn it back over to your friend and explain the problem is related to leaving fuel in it.  Hope this helps.
