Question
I recently started my snowmobile for the first time this winter it started right up. It started to run rough and gas came out of the exhaust pipes. I took the heads off and found gas down in the crank. What happend and how can I fix it?

Answer
Hello Mike,

I think I know exactly what's wrong with your sled. It happens to alot of us snowmobilers every year. Even after draining the fuel tank, and adding stabilizer, there is always a residue of fuel that seems to make it's way to the carbs inlet needle. What happens is, the needle sticks open from gum, and allows the fuel to come up out of the carb, and down into the engine, until it's completely flooded. To fix this, you will need to remove the carb, and take the 4 screws on the bottom off. Then, lift off the float bowl. remove all the gas inside of the bowl, spray it with carb cleaner, and set it aside. Now, take the carb, and remove the little pin the holds the float arm in place. With it removed, unscrew the inlet needle seat, and remove the needle. Clean everything thoroughly. During re-assembly, adjust the float height as follows, Take the carb and hold it in the position it would be in, when is use. Push up on the float arm, ( with it installed, after cleaning) and watch the little tang on it touch the inlet needle. When it just touches the needle, the arm should be parallel with the carb base, perfectly horizontal. If it is not, adjust the tang by bending it, until it is just right. Here is a manual to your carb, that you might find helpful;  http://www.mikuni.com/pdf/vmmanual.pdf   , Hope this helps you out, let me know if I can answer any other questions you might have. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
