Snowmobile Repair: needle position, needle position, bottom to the top

Question
I have a 99 700 RMK, I have put pipes on it and i have to move the needle clip to position 4. Do i count from the bottom to the top or the top to the bottom ?

Answer
Hello Ryan,

That's a good question, as you probably know, most pipes that you buy today won't tell you the answer. The correct answer is, start at the top meaning that the very top notch on the needle is position 1. Number 4 will be near the bottom,( depending on the carb), either on the last notch, or one up, from the last, in most cases. I hope that makes good sense! What you are doing is making the sled run richer, which of course is necessary with the type of pipes you are using. Best of luck to you with the sled, it should run great, hope it's running good for all the snow we'll be getting! --Arcticatman

I thought I'd try and type a crummy diagram, just to make a good explanation, my diagram here, is supposed to be the needle, with the = showing the top ( thicker area) of the needle. It's of course not exact but gives you the right idea.

TOP =1=2=3=(4)=5===------------ BOTTOM
