Steering Column Repair: GM tilt column ignition switch, ford street rod, tilt switches

Question
Douglas,
I have a 40 Ford street rod with a GM column of unknown origin that I need to replace the ignition switch on.  There are numbers stamped on the brackett (685 factory stamped and hand stamped 6E25).  Any idea about vehicle type and year?  The switch has 9 terminals, 3 across the end towards the firewall.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Terry Surette

Answer
Hello Terry:

I hope it's a great street rod!!
As far as the stamping numbers go, they probably mean nothing.  GM uses 7 & 8 digit numbers for their part numbers, so those are most likely just production stamps.  You don;t say if it's tilt or non tilt but in either case, let me direct you to our company website that has ignition switches that fit columns from 1969 through 2006.  I would guess yours is one of these 2.  Don;t go by color, but rather the style.  Tilt columns use a switch that needs the contact mechanism to be pulled to engage the starter, while non-tilt switches need to be pushed.  Determine which one you need and you can order it directly on the web.  We ship worldwide every day.
If neither of these look like yours, then send us a picture of what you have and we will attempt to identify it.
