Steering Column Repair: horn trigger, 1998 isuzu hombre, isuzu hombre

Question
I am installing an after market keyless entry into a 1998 isuzu hombre/chevy s-10. I need to know how to access the correct trigger wire for the horn toot to work. I know it is a black wire comming from the steering column, but which black wire is it they're three different black wires in this column, and also is this trigger a ground trigger or a positive trigger?

Answer
Hi Joe:

the wiring schematics I have available do not identify the horn circuit separately.  the horn wire is usually on the end of the bulk connector, so that is one way of identifying it.  the other way (the way I do it) is with a test light.  using a simple test light, clip the ground wire of the test light to a ground and probe any of the black wires.  When you hit the horn circuit, the horn will sound briefly because of the circuit in the test light being grounded.
You will not cause any harm by probing the black wires in the column and you can do this with the key in the off position as well to avoid any further concern.
I hope this helps
Doug
