Steering Column Repair: ignition lock cylinder, chevy c10, gm vehicles

Question
hi, my 1977 chevy c10 1/2ton non tilt ignition lock cylinder will not come out. it will not turn enough to even turn on. i've taken off the steering wheel and every thing behind it and tried to push the pin for it to come out and won't work, am i doing it right? do i need to get it to turn to the "accessories" position first? Or am i shit out of luck an need a mechanic to fix it? or maybe a push start button. bout done with it. please help.
thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Damian:

Sorry about your truck.  You do not need to turn it at all to get it out.
We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to replace the lock cylinder on GM vehicles.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Here is a link to that page.  This covers most of the locks from 1968 to present.

Lastly, I would have a new lock cylinder in hand before you begin, to see what you are working on (hidden in the column) and accomplish finishing this job quickly.

Good luck
Doug
