Steering Column Repair: corvette ignition, lock cylinder, new keys

Question
i have a 90 corvette with a chip in the key, with tilt steering, the key is stuck in the start position and it wont turn back to the off position......what is the problem.....key tumbler or ignition switch?

Answer
Hi Paul:
Yes, the problem is the lock cylinder has failed in that position, leaving the key jammed.  This is fairly common with the VATS system lock cylinders.
You will need to replace the lock cylinder and then have new keys created by a dealer or locksmith with the new key cuts and the old key chip. This whole job usually costs about $275 (parts & labor)

Good luck
