Steering Column Repair: 92 Buick Century Limited Edition, buick century, steering column

Question
My car was robbed?  They broke away the left part of the steering column to start it with a screwdriver.  My question is:  Do I need to replace the entire column?  Or just the part that is broken (the key doesn't turn when I put it into the ignition any longer) The wipers, signals and that stuff are operational?  I've brought it into several(service station) an they are alll saying the whole column need to be replaced (an they say that with the hood up).  I am driving the car now, however; I use a screwdriver to start it up?  What do you think?

Answer
