Steering Column Repair: Shifter lever, ford steering column, ford f 150

Question
QUESTION: I got a question. I got a 1997 Ford F-150 Crew Cab x(Its my in-law;'s truck#. I went to drive it and notice that the shifter lever was acting up and saw that the truck would not go into park cause when parked on a small incline the truck would go down hill. I would apply brakes and it stopped and placed the emergency brake on and let go of the brakes and still would move. Just recently#I don't drive it alot) I needed that truck and i started it like normal let it warm up and the truck didn't move. I jumped in and tried to put it in park and the shifter level would me i let go of the brakes and the truck moved in reverse. Is the problem the shifter cable or not if so how can i fix the problem. Thanks for your time,
Anthony

ANSWER: We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to repair and/or rebuild the shift tube of a Ford steering column.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions on our website. Although the example is for a different vehicle than yours, the column is identical to yours (tilt and non tilt use the same housing)

QUESTION: Well i ordered a shifter cable from the Ford dealership and it looks like move of a cable than a tube. So the question is did i order the wrong part or no. Sorry just out of it

Answer
Anthony:
If you ordered a cable & got a cable, then my guess is you ordered the wrong part.  If you need a shift tube and arm, as I explained, we have that available for you along with the instructions on our website

I hope you get it worked out
