Steering Column Repair: Steering colum replacement, shift linkage, f 350

Question
I have a 1990 F-350 with the E04D tranny and 351w. I replaced the steering colum from a 1989 f-250 that had a C6 trans. Im no mechanic however I replaced this with ease. I connected all the plugs to the new colum have net yet attached the shift linkage as I wanted to make sure it was working first. It just turns over but will not start. Only thing I can think of was that its possibly in Neutral since I was playing with the linkage rod to remove the old one. Does the comp need to be re-set or something? Would the colum I used be interchangable?

All the plugs matched perfectly..hmmm any help?

Answer
Hi Dave:

If it's turning over, then everything in the column and the neutral switch are fine.  the rest of the issue will be in the firing / distributor portion of the engine (not the column)  I am not familiar with anything further than the column, so if it is computer related (and I doubt that it is--it's too old for that kind of a system) it's out of my expertise.  Just make sure you didn;t pop an ignition fuse in the fusebox.

If you want to make sure it's not column related, swap the ignition switch (the electrical block on the lower side of the column) with the old one.  It may be a bad ignition switch on the replacement column.

Good luck
Doug
