Steering Column Repair: 95 silverado, Low Beams only work if I move tilt wheel up and down., low beams, beam headlights

Question
Hi, I just bought a 95 silverado c1500, 2wd, automatic, 5.7, I could not get the low beam headlights to work, I went thru all of the wiring in the front clip all was good, fuses were good. I found that if I drove down a dirt road I could get them to work until I hit a big bump then I had to quickly click the Hi Beams on. I got home and started playing with the tilt column, the low beams would flicker until I found a sweet spot, and then they would stay on. The "sweet spot" is not always the same position. Is there a ground in the column that could be loose, or a bad switch? I'm pretty good with minor mechanicals, is this something I can do myself? Any advise would be apreciated! Thank you and have a wonderful Easter.

Answer
Hi Corey:
It sound like you have a bad multifunction switch.  Sorry about your situation.  The multifunction switch needs to be replaced as an assembly and it's very expensive.

We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to replace the multi-switch on GM vehicles.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Here is a link to that page.

I hope these instructions help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, I would price out the switch before you begin, as some of them are quite expensive.

Good luck
Doug
