Steering Column Repair: Installation of a Wiper Switch, pontiac bonneville, ac delco

Question
Hi Douglas,

I have a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville SE, 6 cyl. The washer fluid button  popped out of the end of the wiper switch and I need to replace the switch. I bought an AC Delco switch, part #D6364C. It appears like it might be fairly simple to install. It has  plastic pressure clips on the side where it goes into the steering column to hold it in place and a short wire with a multi wire connector on the end that slips into the main panel. My question is how do I actually remove the plastic colum shield and  install the switch? Is this more complex than it looks? Thank you for answering this question. All specifics will be appreciated.

Answer
Hi David:
We have recently uploaded some videos on our website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the loose tilt column you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the videos are for a Chevrolet truck, the column is very similar to yours.

The lever gently but firmly pulls out of the wiper switch.  the cap covering the wires slides off towards the dash revealing the connection.
While you are removing and installing the lever, you must rotate it gently to allow it to insert properly.  If you force it, you risk damaging the wiper switch you are inserting it into.

I hope these videos help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, if you need parts to repair this column simply email us on our "Contact Us / Order Parts" page and we will get back in touch with you personally

Good luck
