Steering Column Repair: Replace a 1993 Chev pickup ( no tilt wheel and no air bag )ignition module, turn signal switch, steering column repair

Question
QUESTION: I was able to remove the steering wheel and replace the ignition lock module but I am not sure where a screw with a metal piece on it goes in putting things back together. I'll take a picture next time!! Where can I find a free online exploded view of the steering column innards.

I also need to know how to install a new ignition module.

ANSWER: Hi Paul:
I don't know what you mean when you refer to "an ignition module".

I am enclosing an exploded diagram of your column as per your request, but if you want to send me a picture of the questionable part, I will be glad to tell you where it goes.

Good luck
Doug

QUESTION: The GM column diagram helped a lot and I found where to put the arm assy. switch activator. I'm still not sure how to position the cam assy turn signal cancelling part (part7).

I incorrectly identified the ignition switch as a "module". I have a Chilton's full size GM truck 1988-1998 repair manual but I don't know what washer head screw  and hexagon nut its talking about or what a dimmer switch assembly looks like.

Answer
GM Dimmer switch

Hey Paul:

The horn cancel cam (the green ring #7) goes on with the stud facing up(towards the steering wheel) and the copper facing the turn signal switch at about 10:00 if the steering wheel is straight ahead.  There is a small notch on the end of the shaft where the steering wheel nut goes.  That notch is supposed to be at the 12:00 position...if the wheels were straight when you took the steering wheel off.  If it's not at 12:00, the use it as a guide to know where it should be...that's the straight ahead mark.

The "washer head screw and hexagon nut" is a small silver bolt (about 5/8" long) with threads on both ends and a 5/16 hex head in the middle so it can be tightened.  It holds the ignition switch to the column and provides a threaded stud for the dimmer switch to rest on- on top of the ignition switch.  It uses another 3/8 nut hold the dimmer switch to the tube on top of the ignition switch.
I am enclosing a picture of the dimmer switch for you.

I hope that makes sense to you.

Let me know if you need any more help.
