Steering Column Repair: 1994 XTD chevrolet stepside, auto with tilt, chevrolet stepside, chevrolet truck

Question
The steering column just went out on, it not working at all. When it did the lights went crazy and the truck died. When you try to turn the wheels the shifter and everything turns. What could cause that to happen? The truck will start now. If it was the tilt bearings that went out could this cause the problem. Or will I need to check on a new Steering column? The truck has a 5.7L in it.

Answer
Hi Armin:

It sounds like the tilt has loosened up on your car to the point that the bolts holding it together have actually come out completely.
We have recently uploaded some videos on our website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the parts you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions. Although the video is for a Chevrolet truck, the column is very similar to yours.  The only exception is that you have a telescopic wheel.  there are separate instruction for that also on our website in the "How-To" section.
