Steering Column Repair: steering column, buick park ave, shift linkage

Question
I need to replace the steering column in a 89 buick park ave. the replacement is
all in one piece my repair shop located and i am going to switch out.  looks like
just 2 bolts under the dash and then the bolts near the gearbox.  what about the
shift linkage

Answer
Hi Don:
The mounting may look (and even be) the same, however be careful about the wiper switch, the cruise control switch and the ignition lock & key.
1) The wiper switch needs to have EXACTLY the same wire connector.
2) The cruise switch (if you want it) needs to be EXACTLY the same.
3) You original ignition key may have a black chip on it...if it does there is still more for you to do or the car will not start.  I am enclosing a picture for you.  Make sure the replacement column has a 'chip key' also.
If your key looks like this, then write me back & I'll give you instruction on how to remedy this inexpensively.  If not, then you should be OK to go
Good luck
Doug
