Steering Column Repair: Firebird steering column, gm vehicles, wiper switch

Question
QUESTION:   I have a 1990 firebird and the steering column is messed up.  Will one from a 1992 grand prix fit?  We have one sitting in our yard and they look similar.

ANSWER: Hi James:
The short answer is 'no'.  They may look similar, but the key word here is similar (not exactly the same).  The turn signal housing and switch are different, but more importantly, the main tube is different where it mounts to the floor and dash.  Sorry.
Why don't you tell me what's messed up about the original & maybe we can fix that one instead

QUESTION: The ignition switch and guts are broken.  I had to brake them to get the wheel unlocked to move the car before it was towed.  I can start it still by using a screwdriver and pulling the rod that runs down the column.  What can I do and is it fixable?  Thank you.

Answer
This type of repair is common for GM vehicles.  We sell all of the parts needed and I can give you step by step instructions, but I would need a picture to determine what parts you need and get you an estimate of the cost.  Most of the time it runs under $150 for everything unless you damaged the wiper switch inside the upper bowl.  Send me an email with a couple of pics (both sides of the column) & we can go from there.  Lastly, does the original key have a little black chip on it?  If it does, then you have anti-theft.
