Steering Column Repair: ignition analysis, torx bolts, chevy tahoe

Question
I'm looking for a technician in the Atlanta, GA area that can remove the ignition housing group and the lock cylinder of a 2004 Chevy Tahoe for an ignition analysis.

Answer
I cannot help you in finding a technician in your town, but I can tell you how to do it.
1)disconnect the battery
2)remove the lower steering column cover (2-- 20 torx bolts)
3) CAREFULLY remove the upper cover (2 - inverted 8 torx bolts).  Be very careful rotating the cover over the red 4 way flasher button.  It breaks VERY easily and will cost you about $200 for the new switch if it breaks.
4) looking at the top of the aluminum housing that holds the lock cylinder you will see a very small hole (1/8") about 2 inches in form the edge.  Rotate the lock cylinder to the "start" position and then insert a probe or small screwdriver in that hole to hit the release pin on the cylinder.  It will then slide out in the "run" position.
5)Reassemble everything first and then slide the lock cylinder in place
6) reconnect the battery
