Steering Column Repair: Chevy C1500 excessive steering wheel play, tilt wheel, chevy c1500

Question
I have a 1991 Silverado 4x4 auto, tilt wheel, 100,000 miles. Over the past 1000 miles my steering wheel developed an up-down and side-side wobble; it feels like something is loose in the tilt mechanism. The column mounting bolts are tight as is the steering wheel retaining nut. It has worsened to the point that the column shifter is affected. Any advice will be greatly apprceiated.

Answer
THIS IS VERY COMMON IN gm CARS/TRUCKS, MAINLY TRUCKS BECAUSE WHEN THE DRIVER GETS INTO THE TRUCK HE/SHE ALWAYS GRABS THE WHEEL TO PULL THEM SELF IN. oops..sorry about the caps.. you need to find a good shop that can repair that for you, most of the older mechanics are better at it than the younger ones..most of the time you can tear the column down and tighten the four inverted star head bolts that always come loose. In some cases the metal column housing itself (the metal tube that actually bolts to the dash) will break at the very top, in which that case you would need to purchase a new column (I sell them online if you need one let me know) please let me know if I can help you further, I will also be glad to give you instructions on how to tear it down and put it back together if you thing you can handle it.
