Subaru Repair: trany, suspect one, pressure test

Question
I have a 99 legacy, that doesn't like to shift from park to drive.you can put it into drive ,but the trany is not shifting.Sometimes if i rev the engine up to 2 or 3 grand it will go in.And when i come to a stop its not shifting down, when i try to go its like I am in neutral.Could it just be some kind of sensor.vss? Also when i do get it into drive i am able to shift through the gears.Fluid has also been changed twice in the past two years, doesn't seem to help.      thanx. scottie

Answer
Scott,

Most likely you need a transmission.  Sounds like a pump pressure issue.

A transmission pump pressure test would reveal that to be true or false though as there are other possibilities, but I wouldn't suspect one of the shift solenoids.
