Subaru Repair: SUBARU LEGACY TROUBLE, subaru legacy, engine control module

Question
I have a 2004 legacy with 42,000 mi. When I started to drive the other day the car would not go over 20 mi./hr. I could not rev the engine and the check engine light was on.Also the cruise control light on the dashboard was blinking on and off.The next
day after starting the car the check engine light went off and I
COULD REV THE GAS. I drove it around the block and it seemed fine.I have never used cruise control and the car is a four cylinder with I think 125 hp.I would appreciate any help.

Answer
Lou,

You need to start with having the Engine Control Module scanned for codes.  That is the starting point, from there determining the cause of the code or codes and also most likely the cause of the rough running will be the next step.

You can read about the check engine light here.

There are many possibilities, and really nothing you can just "check" for your self.

Basically you have an intermittent issue, and trying to resolve it ahead of it happening again is really your best option
