Subaru Repair: differential problems or hub problems?, differential problems, wheel bolts

I own a 2000 subaru impreza 2.5RS and the left rear hub has gone out 3 times now and i think that this could be something else causing the problem like the differential, but I'm not sure. the hub makes a sound like someone has jamed a popcan in the back of a bicycle. i replaced it with a new one and tried rebuilding the hub and the noise came back. Help if you can.

Are you referring to the wheel hub? The portion that presses into the wheel bearing is the hub, this is also what the wheel bolts up to. Subaru has a revised wheel bearing and install procedure if that helps. I need more information to try and help you. What exactly is failing and who has tried to fix it and what are you using for parts?
