Subaru Repair: Reverse, subaru impreza, shift mechanism

Question
I have a 1995 Subaru Impreza and it will not go into reverse at all, but then after I left the battery off overnight it went into reverse till i placed it in park and then it quit. I was thinking the haveing it unplugged might have reset the computer and allowed it to go in gear. I also have had problems with flooding and starting the engine up. Because of these two things i was thinking it may have a bad temperature sensor and maybe a bad automatic transmission computer.

Will it go into drive? or is it just not moving at all?If it wont move at all chances are pop or coffee has been spilled into the shift mechanism and the shift interlock has become sticky.This can be repaired with some disassembly and and some glass cleaner.
