Subaru Repair: noise from tranny,suspension, piston slap, cv joint

Hi Frank,

Looks like a great site!
My 98 Legacy with 2.2 L 5 speed with 80 000 miles is making a knocking noise when accelerating from a stop to  a left turn lane. No noise going straight. Also, is there a way to eliminate the engine knocking noise of the engine or is this common to all Subarus?

   The knocking noise, sounds like you may have a bad CV joint on one of the front axles. I recommend having it checked out. As far as the engine noise, it depends on what is creating the noise. Most Subaru's do have what is called piston slap, and is normal unfortuantly. I hope this helps.
