Subaru Repair: Oil Drip?, legacy outback, oil drip

Question
I have an automatic 2.5L 1996 Legacy Outback with 125k miles.  There seems to be fluid dripping on something hot under the hood.
When I stop the car after driving at highway speeds there is smoke coming from under the hood.  I do not think it's the radiator, as it smells like oil.
Do you know what this could be?

Answer
Hello Cara,

These engines are noted for there oil leaks. They leak from everywhere. Oil pump, valve covers, cam seals, PCV cover. It is very common for us to do engine reseals on these engines. You would need to take it somewhere and have them find exactly which one is leaking, if not all of them. Also note that if your timing belt hasn't been changed yet, it should be. They are recommended every 105k. I hope this helps.
