Towing Issues: bent tie rods and leaking cv covers, tow driver, dumb mistake

Just had a santa fe AWD loaded onto a flatbed. My mecanic later tells me that the tie rods are bent and leaking and that he thinks the tow driver hooked the chains onto the tie rods. I watched as the SUV was driven up the inclined bed and put back into park. The chains were then hooked up and the vehicle was pulled up the inclined bed. the wheels were not free wheeling. The bed was then lowered and chains attatched to the rear end. Both chains were then tightened.Would appreciate your impressions about the process and the results.

It would be an awfully dumb mistake for a tow driver to hook up to your tie rods. Not that it has happened before, but anyone with experience would not do that unless the car was totaled.

I would find out more about the drivers experience before assuming that he made such a mistake
