Towing Issues: Towing from private property, salvage yard, tow company

Question
We are from Alachua County in Florida.  Recently, we had 2 vehicles removed from our property by a salvage yard owner.  He used a flat bed roll off tow truck.  My question is what are the regulations concerning towing without vehicle owner and/or property owner's permission.  We own the property and the vehicles; however they were towed without our permission.  It turns out the tow truck owner says he bought our vehicles from someone whom we do not know. Very curious about the laws for towing on private property.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Well this sounds interesting...  But from what it sounds like the "salvage yard owner" happened to be scammed... its kind of a common issue now with the high prices of scrap metal...

If you have not already talked to the police I would do it now. It sounds like Auto Theft to me, but then I am not there and do not know the whole story. The one that you have been told by the tow company does sound passable.

As to the towing laws from private property, it would not really apply here as the whole thing is actually a "CONSENT TOW" where a party does give permission to do the tow. Just like when you break down and call a tow truck...

If the vehicle was illegally parked in a parking lot then its a "Non Consent Tow" which has lots of regulations.

That is the big issue here, the laws would not apply for "notifying the owner"

Like I say, talk to the police and also the tow company. See what each of then say and will do.
