Towing Issues: Towing Issue, rental lease agreement, unlicensed vehicles

Question
My car was towed from the parking lot of the apartment complex that I live in.  My tags expired on May 31, 2008.  My car was towed the night of June 5, 2008.  I live in Baltimore, MD 21244. If I was stopped by an officer, he would have directed me to MVA, and or given me a warning that my tags had just expired.  How is it that MVA does not flag you until 30 day pass the registration date, but I can be towed by a tow company. My second question is why would tow guys take your car off of the dully or what ever it is called, and charge you half of the amount to tow.

Answer
Well the apartment complex most likely has a provision in the rental - lease agreement which covers "unlicensed vehicles" which is what your vehicle fits the description of...

But the difference between the DMV and the contract is just how the Property owner decides to manage his property... 5 days is a bit crazy to me but then some places are very aggressive in enforcing the regulations...

Now as the the "half price" for the tow, It sounds like you came out before the tow truck was finished hooking up and before it left the lot... This is a general practice and its called either a "drop fee or Release at Scene fee"
