Motorcycle Repair: sporster suspension travel, harley sportster, change shocks

Question
What is the differences of suspension travel of a 2007,2008 Harley sportster 883,883low,custom,883r? How will the travel difference affect ride quality? Can shocks of different travel be swapped around from "Sporster" model to "Sportster" model? Or are the shocks..model specific...Looking for a "forward control" model but with the most "suspension" travel...for comfort and ride quality..with the "mag" non-laced wheels..tks

Answer
The length of travel of the shocks have nothing to do with the quality of ride. Length has to do with how far the shocks go before bottoming out.
You can go lower on the shocks as well as higher. You can also shorten the froks, but you hvae to take into account the shocks hitting the fender if you hit hard with two people on the bike.
In order the change the ride quality, you change the fork oil to a lighter oil for a softer ride. Heavier oil for a stiffer ride. The only thing you can do for the rear shocks is change the springs or change shocks.
As the the length of the shocks, they are all within an inch of each other. Forks are the same
Good luck and happy riding
