Towing Issues: unfair towing, baggages, fire lane

i went to my friends apt. to help him load his baggages. in about 20 mins. and we're about to load the baggages, my car is not in front of the apt anymore... they towed it...i went to the towing place where they i had my car asap and i saw them just unloading my car...i told them that i was helping my friend to load his boxes and luggages coz he is goin to the phillipines the next day...they asked me to pay them $ 175 to get my car...is that fair or a scam?

Was it in a fire lane, in the roadway, or parked on the grass ???


Things like this are needed to provide answers, along with the city and the state it was in...

Some areas have laws regulating towing fees, how long vehicles can be parked before towing and such...

So I need more information.
