Towing Issues: Towed from Apartment complex in Maryland, handicap parking space, handicapped parking spaces

Question
I was wondering if it is legal to be towed from a handicap parking space that
is in a private lot at our apartment complex. I recently came home late and
accidently parked in one space that is handicap in front of our building, it
was late and I was tired and didn't see the sign that said handicap. There is
nothing on the sign though that says you will be towed, it just is a picture of
a wheel chair. My question is whether or not you can be towed from this spot
since it is a private lot. There are signs in the lot that say cars can be towed
and gives the phone number to call but not anywhere near the spot.

Answer
Handicapped parking spaces, are governed by Federal, State and City laws - regulations and such... That means that you can be towed if it is written in ANY OF THE LAWS..  It does not have to say that it will be on the sign, or anywhere near it...

But as I said before, the multitude of laws and regulations are then affected by the apartment complex policies about parking. That opens up a whole new can of worms...

In all fairness, I get bunches of questions which say that "I parked here, but there where no signs in that space saying I would be towed"

I know that I have heard that about 10 million times when I was doing lots of private property tows, and while I would always listen, I would agree that there was no sign "in that space" but then the same argument was raised that "I do not understand English, where is the one in Russian, Chinese or "insert other language" "...

Could we get along with a sign in front of each space and think how that would look in the apartment complex with 1 or more signs in front of each space.

99% of all towing laws are written where the sign needs to be posted at the entrances, which provides the required notices that vehicles will be towed for violations.
