Towing Issues: Tire flat spot, small wheels, rear wheels

Question
Richard,

My Automatic 2004 Mustang was recently towed in Fairfax, VA.  I have 2 month old tires on the car.   I always park with the emergency brake on. When I picked up the car the right front tire was flat.  After putting the spare on I noticed the tire was flat spotted all the way through the tire cord.

I don't understand how a free rotating front tire could get that way and only on one side. I was backed into the parking spot.  If you pulled a car sideways or towed it with the steering wheel off center could this happen?  Thanks for any information.

Answer
well was the car backed into the parking space at the tow company???

That would be a question to look at..

But since your vehicle was backed into the parking space and it is a rear wheel drive vehicle and the emergency brake works on the rear wheels, it would sound (to me at least) that it was towed front end up and they dollied the vehicle (those are the small wheels on the back of the truck) which in a manner gets all 4 wheels off the ground...

Now I am going to just say that "POSSIBLY" when they towed it they did not tighten up the wheel lift arms on the right front and it sat lower than any other tire, and that might of caused it to rub though to the cord...

But again I was not there and I do not know what really happened..

But that sounds like the best possible thing based on my experiences and knowledge of what "might of happened"
