Towing Issues: Towing Issues, legal ramifications, tow company

Question
I'm a land lord for an apartment complex in Durham, NC.  I have two vehicles in my lot that have expired tags and at least one flat tire.  I have left notices with each tenant advising them that I am going to have the vehicles towed and to date, they are still sitting there.  I have not posted signs in the lot since this hasn't been an issue in the past.  Are there any legal ramifications if I have the vehicles towed since I have given the tenants 30 days to get the vehicles operational and legally tagged?

Answer
I have looked high and low for information on North Carolina towing regulations dealing with removal of vehicles from Private Property and I just can not find anything with sign requirements...

Not to say that there are not any laws regarding signs, its just that I can not find any...

Best answer I can provide right now, is for you to contact a "quality service" tow company or two, and discuss it with them as they might be able to point you in the right direction...

But as a general rule, signs should be posted at the entrances to the complex and state "who is allowed to park", when its able to be towed (24 hours a day), where - who the tow company is and a phone number for them  as a general rule... Also if there is "such a law regarding the impounding the vehicles" then it might be best to have that listed also (law - statue number)

But from what you say in the question, it sounds as if you have done all that is possible and required (in most areas) and as such can have them towed away.
