Towing Issues: Lien/towing, palm beach florida, west palm beach florida

Question
Approximate. years ago, my car was towed from an apartment complex in West Palm Beach, Florida. The towing company sent a letter saying that If I did not pick the vehicle up it would be sold at an auction. Since I had no further interest in the vehicle, I did not pick the vehicle up. Fast forward to the present time....

I was just informed that a lien has been placed against me, for that car. Apparently the car was left on the side of a Florida Highway, and at the request of the FHP another towing company picked the vehicle up. I did not know about any of this until now. Now, I am trying to get information about what the 1st tow company did with the vehicle and how it ended up on the side of the road. However, the are not being very cooperative. They are telling me their records don't go back that far and they will get back with me, which they have not. Is there anything that you know of that can be done?? PLEASE HELP!!

Tow company #2 needs me to prove that the vehicle in question was not in my possession at that time and the only way (that I know of) to do so is by getting the information from tow company #1 who originally had the vehicle. But the refuse to cooperate. Any information will be of great help.

Answer
I am guessing that you do not have the original letter..

From what it sounds like to me, is the first tow company towed the vehicle, did the lien papers, sent you the letters and such, but since you did not pick it up then they sold it at auction...

Now it sounds like someone bought it but did not do the paperwork to transfer it to their names...

Fast forward to the current times,  it sounds as if it was towed again and your name is still on the paperwork - registration..

Now I do believe that the original tow company will have paperwork on who it was sold to, but it might take time to find it...  I do not believe that they State has any of the paperwork, but I could be wrong..

Now if you could get tow company 2 to contact company 1 you might have some luck (professional courtesy) but it does not always happen...

I am not sure what to do or suggest except to keep on the first tow company... Also keep tow company 2 in the loop about what is happening...
