Towing Issues: towing for expired registration in NY, leasing company, solid answers

Question
Hi,

Do you know (or know where I could find) the laws regarding towing a vehicle for expired registration in NY? My husband was parked in Brooklyn yesterday and was towed and ticketed for expired registration. He received temporary registration when he leased the car about a month ago and we never received the permanent registration from the DMV though they said it was mailed out on the 4th of Jan. The expiration had expired two days ago. If you could please help me with this issue I would appreciate it. Thank you so much!

Answer
New York City as specific laws dealing with vehicles, registrations and the like and it makes it hard for me to provide solid answers on this kind of question...

It does sound like DMV as either dropped the ball or the US MAIL has misplaced the registration papers...  As such it all depends on what they will allow for you to do now, such as get another temporary registration or not...

The leasing company might be able to help here as they will have much more "PULL" with DMV than you would.

But I do not know of specific answers which you are looking for... The NYC  DCA has a web site which might have at least a starting point on where to go or what to do about the towing, but I think (from the sounds of the question) it was towed for invalid - expired registration (THINK $$$$ HERE FOR THE CITY) and you might get the idea...
