Towing Issues: dolly towing a Toyota Tacoma, tow truck drivers, bells and whistles

Question
I just purchased a 2008 Toyota Tacoma (automatic). The sales person showed me a small release by the shifter that he said would allow me to tow the truck. This release does allow the truck to free roll, but I am getting conflicting information on the towability. I have a dolly, and plan on towing that way. Am I safe to tow with the nose up on the dolly, or would it be better to tow with the back (drive) wheels up? Should I secure the steering wheel if that is the case?

Answer
RV towing issues are not my area of expertise and as such I do not keep up with all the "tricks and bells and whistles" needed to do that...

But the "release" kind of scares me... I do know of a "release" where when we are going to tow the vehicle we can "over ride" the parking lock on the transmission and allow us to get the vehicle into neutral... That is the only release I know of...

Dolly towing, yes it is best to load it with the drive wheels on the dolly (ok that would be backwards) and of course you want the vehicle to follow you down the road straight... Secure the Steering wheel and do not just depend on the ignition lock, use a strap or something to hold it in place.. There are about a dozen methods which can be used,  here is a link to a "commercial system which some tow truck drivers use"

Good luck and hope this helped... If not then check out the dingy towing section from the link below..
