Towing Issues: Exterra Towing capacity, nissan exterra, tow dolly

Question
Hi,
I want to tow my Mazda3 using my Nissan Exterra. I have read that the exterra towing capacity is 5000lbs, and the Mazda is only 2900lbs but when I try to rent a tow dolly from uhaul it says the Exterra doesn't weigh enough to tow the Mazda, is this right ? can I talk to them about this ?

thanks,

Answer
Not that I am going to "defend" UHaul, but they have done extensive research as to what can be done with vehicles towing trailers and other vehicles...

What they say can be done with their equipment is what they feel is safe.  Remember in this world today there are lots of people who try things which are unsafe and as such when problems happen they SUE..

Sure your Mazda might weigh 2900 pounds, but also add in the tow dolly weight... As a general rule you want something which has the weight to handle it...

A quick check of the Xtera specs show it weights approximately 4200 pounds (wow it can tow more then it weights ?)

The Mazda with a tow dolly will weigh a bit more then 3/4 of the total weight of the Nissan.

Talking to UHaul will not get them to change their mind, as they have company policy to follow... Sorry to bear such bad news but I do not see it helping at all..
