Towing Issues: Is there anyway for a homeless famly to get the car back, tow company, 30days

Question
We just bought a car from a friend the first of June and to get the kids to summer school, look for an apartment and live in. I let a friend drive my daughter to school while I packed up a hotel room and the police in van nuys impound our car because he could not show a lic. They are keeping the car for 30days and we can not afford the impound fees. Does anyone know how we might get the car back.

Answer
well first of all, ( not totally sure if this is correct) you should have the vehicle registered in your name..  I understand that at times they have let the owners get vehicles out which are not registered to the person who was stopped... Image the impact on RENTAL cars if that was to happen..

Now I would check with the tow company as they might have a better answer for you as to how to get it back, but I am sure that the fee would be high as it gets higher each day...

Not sure if you could buy it at the auction, I know that some companies have policies about the owner "rebuying" the vehicle..

Sorry for the lack of information, but this is one of those LEGAL problems which might take a lawyer to resolve.
