Towing Issues: Flat towing a FWD w/standard, cutaway van, flat tow

Question
Hi, Glad to find you and this site.  I want to flat tow a '89 Voyager w/5spd (2900 lbs) behind a Chevy G30 14' cutaway van (9,200 lbs.) w/350 auto. Two questions, all I have to do is put the Plymouth in neutral and forget it, yes?  Two:  do I need aux braking on the van?  Going to tow it 600 miles across GA on back roads at 50 mph during daylight hours.

Answer
Richard,
Yes you can tow the van in neutral.  Yes you will need a braking system to tow the van in GA (assuming it is over 3,000lbs.)  If the van weighs exactly 2,900lbs with a full tank of gas, including the baseplate and tow bar and you put NOTHING inside the van while it is being towed, you are not LEGALLY required to have brakes installed.  However, it would be the safer thing to do.
