Towing Issues: towing HD rigs, 5th wheel, trucking company

Question
I need to transport two 17,000lb International F8200's 2000 miles. Can I tow one of them with the other using an a-frame? Any website info on rig a-frame towing or Heavy Duty A-frame manufacturers?
What about piggy backing one on the other? Any place I can get info on how this is done?

Answer
Well its possible to deck (piggyback) the unit where one unit is hauled behind or on the other one. If this is done you would need a decking saddle assembly.

Now as to private people getting ahold of them, I have no idea where to start to get one. There are several styles ranging from high mount to low mount fifth wheel saddles, to frame mounted saddle assemblies. Most all of them are owned by the transport companies.

Now I know there are several towing devices available which mount to the 5th wheel of a tractor and allow for vehicle to be towed just like a tow truck would do it. Again there are a few of them and I believe that cost would be an problem for you.

http:www.protote.com  and http://www.walkerequipment.net are both commercial towing attachments to allow tractors to have a towing application.

Do both units run, or is one dead. You might be able to find a tow company who can do the tows for you, or you might get a trucking company with a low boy to move the vehicles for you.

I am curious as to where they are and where they are going, as from time to time we travel and have a need for vehicles to either go or come back in that direction ourselves.

Any more information you might need, let me know via E-mail at  flatman57@aol.com   and make sure it has something like allexperts follow up so that it will get thought the spam filters.

Hope this helped
